Sending meals to new parents: how PleNOSH gift cards work
Sending meals to new parents: how PleNOSH gift cards work

Everyone brings food in the first fortnight. Then life goes back to normal for everyone except the people with the baby. Week 3, week 6, week 10: that's when a box of dinners lands hardest.

Here's how to send one.

Why a gift card, not a box

You could order a Weekly Meal Pack and have it delivered to their door. Some people do. But a new household has enough surprises. A gift card lets them pick the week, the dishes and the delivery day that suits them, and choose meat or vegetarian. It also means you don't have to know their address, their dietary needs, or whether their freezer is already full of lasagne.

How it works

  1. Buy a PleNOSH Kitchen gift card. Amounts run from $30 to $500.
  2. The gift card arrives by email. You can send it straight to them or to yourself to pass on.
  3. They choose a week when the menu opens (Thursday 9am) and order before Sunday 10pm.
  4. Meals arrive Wednesday, delivered across Melbourne metro and the Mornington Peninsula.

The gift card has no weekly expiry pressure, so they can use it when they're ready, not when you happened to send it.

How much to send

A 5-meal Weekly Meal Pack starts at $82.90 for vegetarian and $85.90 for meat. That's a week of single-serve dinners for 1 person. For 2 adults, the 10-meal pack is $165.80 or $171.80. Add roughly $15 to $17 for delivery.

If you're chipping in with friends or family, a $150 to $250 card covers a full week of dinners for 2 with delivery, and leaves room for a few extras like buns or soup.

What they'll receive

Each Weekly Meal Pack meal is around 400g with protein, rice and vegetables in one container. Heat and eat. The menu changes every week with 5 meat and 5 vegetarian dishes, so there's always something new. Dishes like Japanese beef curry, teriyaki chicken, Thai green curry and braised pork belly reheat well and freeze well, which matters when dinner time and bedtime are the same time.

Not only for new parents

The same idea works for someone recovering from surgery, a family going through a hard stretch, or a friend who's moved house and doesn't own a saucepan yet.
